Data Architect
Job Opportunity:
Berxi has an exciting opportunity for a Data Architect to join its Data Engineering team in Boston, MA. BHSI has a hybrid work structure with four days in the office and one day at home. The Berxi Data Engineering team consists of talented Data engineers who design, architect, and build Data Platforms that enable our business functions to make data-driven decisions. The Data Architect will report to the Manager of Data & Analytics who oversees the Berxi data team and will collaborate with cross-functional leadership such as Product Management, Product Development, Marketing, Partnership, and Customer Experience teams. The Data Architect will collaborate with teammates across Berxi to deliver high-quality data solutions on schedule by reviewing and understanding the value stream of the Berxi insurance business and insurance product delivery life cycle. As a Data Architect, you will be responsible for designing, developing, maintaining, monitoring, and extending the data warehouses, data marts, data platforms, and analytics architecture to meet the business objectives that enable stakeholders to make timely and informed decisions using reliable and accurate data. The design and development focus includes but is not limited to, dimensional data model design, data Integration, metadata management, master data management, data security, data quality, data auditing and profiling, and business intelligence reporting solutions.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Design, develop and optimize enterprise-level reporting, OLAP, and other business intelligence solutions, and cross-train others in the use of the tools.
- Architect and design data platform solutions with design artifacts that are sustainable and high quality to meet functional and non-functional requirements.
- Collaborate with multiple business teams to review and prioritize deliverables.
- Translate and communicate technical requirements into well-designed solutions that meet the business and technical goals defined by business stakeholders.
- Debug and troubleshoot data quality problems using SQL tools.
- Hands-on in producing, consuming, and processing structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data formats from a variety of data sources and link services (FTP, API, streaming).
- Train, coach, and mentor globally distributed data engineer talent.
- Enforce adherence to architectural standards/principles, global product-specific guidelines, usability design standards, etc.
- Identify, communicate, and mitigate risks, assumptions, issues, and decisions throughout the full lifecycle.
- Analyze the latest industry trends such as cloud computing and distributed processing and begin to infer the risks and benefits of their use in business.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience.
- Strong hands-on experience in Azure cloud services such as Azure Data Factory, Databricks, Data Lake, Azure AD, Azure Monitor, Azure SQL, Azure Purview, Azure Analysis Services, Azure DevOps, Synapse, Predictive Analytics & Machine Learning.
- Prior Hands-on experience in end-to-end CI/CD implementation or DevOps process in Data & Analytics context.
- Experience with SSRS, Power BI tools, or other visualization tools such as Tableau, and Looker.
- Extensive experience in data warehouse reporting and ETL/ELT tools.
- Experience in handling technology projects/programs in Insurance Domain or other financial services preferred.
- Experience in coding programming languages such as SQL, Python, Go, PowerShell, Bash, etc.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and conceptual skills with the ability to work across business areas, in a collaborative, open, and flexible mindset.

Senior Data Engineer
Job Opportunity:
We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer with excellent problem-solving skills, strong attention to detail, and the technical know-how to independently build solutions from start to finish. We are looking for an expert on ETL development/data modeling, who is comfortable working with TSQL and datasets of varying latencies and sizes, sourcing data from various disparate data providers and platforms.
As a Senior Data Engineer at Berxi, you will be on an autonomous data engineering team working closely with application engineering and senior leaders around the organization to identify needs and then design, develop, and implement the necessary data storage, automation, and integration solutions to support enterprise decisions.
This role is part of a team responsible for the technical integrity of our processes, financial and operations analytics, as well as ad hoc delivery of data artifacts, all centered around our enterprise data warehouse. You will leverage a hybrid of cloud technologies to process data at scale and build CICD pipelines, microservices, and PowerBI capabilities to deliver performant data solutions. The successful candidate will have demonstrated skills in ETL programming and a broad understanding of data integration, storage, visualization tools, and data modeling. Advanced development will include producing dimensional models, and data marts in support of producing timely insights. Overall, we are focused on enabling self-service data analysis for ease of reporting and analytics visualization while consistently focusing on data accessibility, efficiency, governance, performance, and integrity.
As part of our team of agile data engineers, you and your teammates will participate in Scrum ceremonies to deliver incremental MVP business value while continuously achieving value-based services for internal and external stakeholders and partners. Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provisioning workflows, data pipelines, extracts, ETL, and integrations using REST APIs, JSON, XLS, and other sources to integrate with internal data stores and systems.
- Working on data model designs and ERD documentation to support new data sets and systems implemented around the organization.
- In-depth analysis of existing data load, analytics, and visualization code to ensure accuracy of data flow and resolution of anomalies.
- Identifying operational data gaps and recommending data solutions to address those gaps in a secure, performant, and reliable manner.
- Working from requests stored in a managed backlog, research and enhance specifications to develop or significantly modify data sourcing, storage, and provisioning needs. Develop and/or modify effective, defect-free source code that meets business requirements and team standards, as verified through peer code reviews.
- Working through Agile sprints, participating in, and often leading, paired programming and code reviews.
- Attending quarterly team planning sessions consisting of top-down strategic breakdown and bottom-up engineering team estimation of epics, stories, tasks, and spikes.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
- Generally, 7+ years of demonstrated professional software or data engineering experience with specialization in data modeling and business intelligence.
- Must have intimate knowledge of and working experience with Microsoft Azure.
- Intimate knowledge of the SQL Server stack (2016+), ETL, and Transact SQL (TSQL).
- Proficient in data engineering concepts, languages, and tools; ability to develop on multiple platforms.
- Proficient in data transformation, ETL methodology.
- Proficient in TSQL procedural coding, analysis, DML, and DDL scripting.

Senior Manager of Marketing Technology
Job Opportunity:
This is a unique opportunity to shape the vision of, define the architecture for, implement, and optimize the marketing technology and data infrastructure supporting the Berxi marketing organization. Berxi is the brand for Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance’s (BHSI) small commercial division, direct-to-consumer insurance making professional and small business insurance easier to understand, buy and afford. Berxi has existed for 7 years and is at an inflection point in its growth. This role will help support the future growth of the company and build the Berxi brand by enabling personalized digital experiences across channels.
Reporting to the Director of Marketing Operations within the Marketing team, you will collaborate with stakeholders across the organization to articulate the marketing technology and data roadmap, define requirements, lead vendor evaluation, implementations, and integrations, onboard marketing end-users and provide ongoing management/governance of the marketing tech and data stack to ensure alignment with business goals.
This is a highly cross-functional and collaborative role that requires establishing and maintaining an effective partnership with Berxi’s technical leadership. Duties & Responsibilities:
Marketing Technology Infrastructure
- Architect the marketing technology stack to ensure interoperability and scalability.
- Develop technical requirements and documentation for stakeholder review.
- Partner with Berxi Platform leadership (CTO, Architect, and Product Management) to ensure alignment with company technical and data strategy.
- Lead platform implementation in conjunction with internal and external resources.
- Configure and integrate platforms using pre-built APIs.
- Ensure that teammates are onboarded to new platforms, with a focus on self-service and enabling effective campaign creation.
- Maintain the martech stack, acting as the technical lead and system admin for all platforms.
- Manage the martech roadmap and lead regular updates to the Berxi organization.
- Participate in recommendations on how to invest in technology, people, and external partners to meet company goals.
- Work with the Director of Marketing Operations to establish and communicate KPIs and metrics that demonstrate the business value of martech investments.
Vendor Evaluations and Management
- Develop requirements, research vendors, and lead the RFP process.
- Identify use cases to ensure that chosen platforms meet business and end-user needs.
- Collaborate with Berxi Platform leadership on technical evaluations.
- Manage vendor negotiations, ensure stakeholder alignment, estimate Total Cost of Ownership, and establish budgets.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to identify internal resources and evaluate external partners as needed to ensure that initiatives are resourced for timely implementation.
- Establish project phases, create and manage project plans and communicate the status to the broader organization at regular intervals.
- Proactively engage with internal stakeholders and vendors to manage variable costs.
Data Management
- Work hand-in-hand with the Berxi Platform data team to determine the architecture for making data available to platforms to deliver on marketing’s segmentation, personalization, and analytical requirements. This may include: identifying and preparing customer data sources for consumption by a future CDP, defining requirements for data pipelines and orchestration, and recommending identity stitching/resolution methods.
- Enable marketing end-users to derive value from data by continuously monitoring for data quality/integrity, identifying gaps, and collaborating with the data team on solutions that provide the marketing team with accurate insights on marketing performance.
- Ensure adherence to Berxi data governance in support of ever-changing privacy regulations.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
- 10 years of experience in marketing operations or digital marketing for e-commerce or D2C companies.
- Hands-on experience selecting, implementing, and managing a variety of Marketing Automation solutions or Customer Data Platforms.
- Experience integrating marketing tools including experience using APIs; a working knowledge of HTML, JavaScript, and SQL is preferred.
- Proven success collaborating with engineering/technical teams to implement martech solutions on time and on budget.
- A thorough understanding of Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager, and advertising platforms such as Facebook, Google, and LinkedIn.
- Familiarity with A/B and multivariate testing and related platforms.
- Advanced Excel skills and exposure to business intelligence platforms such as PowerBI, Looker Studio, or Tableau.
- Demonstrated interest in and ability to learn new technologies.
- Highly collaborative with the ability to achieve goals by establishing productive relationships with internal teammates and external partners.
